Our Beef

We raise certified Black Angus cattle and work daily to provide them with the best life we can. Our cattle are pasture raised at our ranch and in the spring/summer enjoy grazing in the Owyhee mountains. They return to the ranch in the fall, when they enjoy ranch-grown, non-GMO feed including, natural meadow hay, alfalfa, orchard grass, and clover.

All of our cattle are raised without any antibiotics or growth hormones. Our cattle are Global Animal Partnership (GAP) Level 4 wellness certified – GAP’s highest animal wellness standard for a cow/calf ranch.

We grow all of our crops without pesticides or herbicides, the only occasional exception being when we must treat alfalfa for weevils – which is not a yearly treatment.

The quality of our beef is directly related to our cattle’s high quality diet, healthy environment, and the humane care they receive.  Happy cows make the best quality beef and we’re passionate about providing the best tasting beef while implementing the industry’s best practices for ethical agriculture.

The Bruce Family

Josh and Alicia Bruce and their sons raise the animals from birth for the Bruce Ranch Beef CSA. Josh grew up on the Bruce family ranch in Pleasant Valley, Idaho and is a 3rd generation rancher. He graduated from University of Idaho with a Bachelor’s of Science in Business Economics.

Josh married Alicia Mackenzie, who also grew up on a ranch, and in 2010 they decided to go forward with ranching life on the Bruce family ranch to pursue their passion of producing quality cattle while improving the natural high-desert ecosystem.

Their three boys are learning about the many facets of ranching and all that goes into it. Alicia graduated from Boise State University with a Bachelor’s of Arts in Elementary Education K-8 and is a full time teacher at Pleasant Valley Elementary. Throughout the year there are many long, busy days but they are all grateful to live the ranching life and are committed to fostering a quality product and healthy environment.
